The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has responded to the recent ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja regarding a lawsuit challenging his removal from office.
On Monday, Justice Inyang Ekwo dismissed the suit, filed under case number FHC/ABJ/CS/599/2024, which sought to oust Ganduje from his position. The case was initiated by the North Central APC Forum, led by Saleh Zazzaga.
The defendants listed in the suit included Ganduje, the APC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The plaintiffs questioned the legality of Ganduje’s appointment as the APC National Chairman, arguing that he does not hail from the North Central geopolitical zone.
Speaking to journalists at the party’s headquarters in Abuja, Ganduje described the lawsuit as “groundless” and “without merit.” He made this remark during a meeting with a delegation from the North Central APC Elders Forum, who visited to congratulate him on the court’s decision.
“We appreciate your congratulations on the court’s ruling regarding the suit against my office. The allegations were unfounded, and the court rightly handled the matter,” Ganduje stated.
He further expressed gratitude to the North Central elders for their continued support despite the controversy, adding that those still dissatisfied are welcome to challenge the decision in court, but the party remains confident of success.
In his judgment, Justice Ekwo ruled that the plaintiff lacked the legal standing to file the suit, aligning with the APC’s preliminary objection. He also upheld INEC’s argument that the name “North Central APC Forum” was not a legally registered entity, further weakening the case against Ganduje.
