- NDLEA Seizes International Drug Shipments in Lagos
Lagos, Nigeria – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant drug seizures at various courier firms in Lagos, targeting shipments bound for the United Kingdom, Ireland, Cyprus, and South Africa.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the operation uncovered consignments of cocaine and pharmaceutical opioids, ingeniously concealed within everyday items such as ladies’ sanitary pads and hair treatment cream containers.
In a statement released on Sunday from Abuja, Babafemi detailed the confiscation of multiple drug parcels:
- On September 3, NDLEA operatives discovered 30 parcels of cocaine, weighing 1.1 kilograms, hidden in hair cream containers at a logistics company. This shipment was destined for Ireland.
- On September 5, another seizure at the same company revealed 24 parcels of cocaine, weighing 862 grams, also concealed in hair cream containers and intended for the UK.
- Additionally, 525 pills of tramadol (225mg) and ecstasy (MDMA), disguised within ladies’ sanitary pads, were intercepted at a different courier firm on September 3. This consignment was bound for Cyprus.
- On September 4, NDLEA agents seized 200 ampoules of promethazine and pentazocine injections hidden within food items and herbs, headed for London, UK.
- Another notable seizure occurred on September 6, with tramadol pills (225mg) buried in granulated melon, originating from Cameroon and en route to South Africa.
In a separate operation at Port Harcourt International Airport on September 2, a joint examination with Nigerian Customs Service officials led to the interception of 550,000 tramadol pills from a shipment arriving from Delhi, India.
These successful interdictions underscore the NDLEA’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and enhance border security. The agency continues to work closely with international partners to address the global challenge of illicit drug trade.
