The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State has announced the nomination fees for the forthcoming local government elections. Chairmanship aspirants will be required to pay N500,000, while councillorship aspirants are expected to pay N150,000. Additionally, expression of interest fees have been set at N100,000 for chairmanship and N50,000 for councillorship positions.
The announcement was made by the NNPP Chairman in Kano, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, during a press briefing on Tuesday. Dungurawa emphasized the party’s commitment to ensuring a level playing field for all aspirants in the upcoming elections, in line with the guidelines of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC).
“We want to avoid any loopholes in our party and provide Kano citizens with leaders who have a strong background to help them overcome economic and social challenges,” Dungurawa stated.
He also endorsed the N10 million and N5 million fees for the chairmanship and councillorship expression of interest forms, respectively, set by the state electoral commission, KANSAIC. According to him, these fees will ensure that only serious and qualified individuals contest in the elections, promoting better management of local governments in the state.
Dungurawa highlighted the NNPP government’s focus on education and empowerment as key pillars for the state’s development. He also revealed that the party has established a screening committee to vet potential candidates, scrutinizing their academic qualifications and conducting drug-related tests to ensure candidates have a sound character.
“We are purchasing WAEC scratch cards to thoroughly verify the academic credentials of all candidates, as well as checking their criminal and drug history. This is to ensure that those aspiring to lead have the integrity and qualifications to serve the people,” Dungurawa added.
